In a landmark move to combat fraudulent scholarship practices and promote educational opportunities, the Association of Liberian Students in India (ALSI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Liberian Community in Rwanda (LIBCOR). This agreement, formalized in September 2024, is a strategic collaboration aimed at fostering academic excellence while protecting Liberian students from unofficial and deceitful scholarship schemes.

The Scope and Purpose of the MOU

The partnership between ALSI and LIBCOR is designed to promote educational integrity and streamline the process of facilitating higher education opportunities for Liberians residing in Rwanda who wish to study in India. Key objectives outlined in the MOU include:

1. Providing Educational Opportunities: Enabling eligible Liberians in Rwanda to access quality higher education in India.

2. Comprehensive Student Support: Ensuring students receive guidance throughout their educational journey—from application to academic completion.

3. Fair Distribution of Incentives: Managing commissions or financial incentives from partner universities transparently and equitably.

   
   

Tackling Scholarship Scams

One of the significant implications of this MOU is its potential to curb fraudulent activities in the scholarship process. By offering a legitimate and organized pathway for student placements, ALSI and LIBCOR aim to eliminate the risks posed by unofficial agents who exploit aspiring students through deceitful promises. This collaboration serves as a safeguard, ensuring that students have access to verified and credible educational opportunities.

Responsibilities Under the Agreement

The responsibilities shared between ALSI and LIBCOR highlight the commitment of both organizations to student welfare:

• LIBCOR: Identifies and prepares eligible students in Rwanda, assisting with documentation and travel arrangements.

• ALSI: Facilitates admission processes, provides support upon arrival, and addresses challenges during the students’ tenure in India.

Ensuring Transparency, Educational Integrity and Fairness

To uphold integrity, the MOU mandates transparency in the management of commissions from universities. Both parties agree to equal distribution of incentives and prompt disbursement, ensuring that the partnership benefits all stakeholders fairly.
